With these improved qualities, the Roadie surpasses the traditional penknife and establishes a new benchmark for cutting instruments that are kind to people. The business end of the Roadie has a sheepfoot-style blade ground from high-performance stainless steel alloyed with cobalt, molybdenum, and vanadium, known as Böhler-Uddeholm N690Co steel. Its full-flat grind and wide blade profile produce an amazing edge geometry for a keen, scalpel-sharp edge. The broad blade also gives room for the characteristic “Double Dent” design, which makes it simple to open the blade with a pinch grip using the thumb and index finger. A Trademark Round HoleTM in the blade proudly proclaims the Roadie as a Spyderco product, despite not being designed as an opening feature. There is a little forefinger choil (finger groove) at the base of the blade, close to the point where it meets the handle. A natural “stop” is produced by placing your index finger on the choil, which gives you superb control over the edge and helps keep the knife from accidentally closing.
